I figured I'd be happily chugging along with my Capturing December photo prompts, but here I've already missed a day, and it's thanks to a pretty ugly reason:
Mr. L and I were pulling Christmas decorations for the house out of our downstairs closet located in between our staircase and half bath/laundry when we came across this wonderful little surprise. I immediately went into panic mode, but at least had enough sense to start taking pictures. Ever since we've moved into this house, we've had issues with the plumbing and pipes. We can't use too much water in a day or the downstairs toilet backs up and floods the bath/laundry. It normally happens when I do more than 2-3 loads of laundry in a day, which really sucks on those days I don't plan ahead and I'm doing multiple loads prepping for a trip. Maintenance has come out a few times to attempt to address these issues, but we were told it's because of old clay piping and the only way to actually get rid of the issue is to have a complete overhaul of the entire neighborhood's plumbing system -- AKA it's not going to go away.
We contacted maintenance last night, and of course we're told it's not an "emergency" and to call back in the morning (today). We didn't have to call after all though -- I've already had two phone calls from maintenance since 7AM to schedule an appointment. The supervisor and another person are going to come out tomorrow afternoon and I guess we'll see what they say then. I don't really know what to expect in this situation.
I tell you, I'm not happy. We've had a few issues already with this house (the biggest being the pipes backing up) and it's been bad enough that we've opted to get on a waiting list for a different neighborhood entirely, for which we'll have to pay out of our own pocket -- not just for moving expenses, but to actually move from one Forest City property to another. I'm trying to look at the bright side in this situation. Maybe it's enough damage that they'll see we're on the waiting list to move and get us out faster, or waive our move fee, or something. Something good can come out of this, right??
In the meantime, I have no idea what to do about it except hide upstairs with the puppies, haha. I know very little about mold, much less the kinds of mold that exist and which are bad, etc., so I have no idea if we should be leaving the house and staying elsewhere for the night or what. I'm honestly really worried about it, but I'm trying my best not to because I know what happens will happen and I can't do much to change it at this point.
Have you dealt with mold issues, whether in military housing or in your own house? How did you deal with it, and was it ever solved completely?
omg that is horrible!!! So not safe either! hope it gets resolved asap!
ReplyDeleteI hope it does too! We have an appointment tomorrow afternoon with a supervisor, so I'm hoping we get some answers on the situation.
DeleteOh my goodness what a nightmare! I hope yall are able to get everything taken care of quickly and are able to get into a new house stat. Are you serious about having to pay for your own move?! It's not your fault FC can't keep their homes livable! I love my house, but after less than two months of living here; I already know I'm going to hate dealing with them! Good luck with everything!
ReplyDeleteI hope we are too, Lynda! And yep, unfortunately we have to pay $500 just to move from one FC property to another. We spoke with the supervisor who came out to inspect the damage and said we're on the list to move out and we'd really like to get out sooner. But I have no idea if that's going to amount to anything -- chances are they'll forget about us.
DeleteBut anyways, welcome to Hawaii!! How are you enjoying it so far?
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt's been quite an adjustment, but I'm loving it so far! It's been hard getting used to my husband long hours, because we haven't been able to get out and do much exploring together. Thats a little frustrating, because I don't want him to feel left out. I've also had a harder time than I thought I would meeting people! I've met a few ladies, but they're all like barely 21/22. Nothing against them, but its amazing what a few years a difference makes in maturity and whats considered fun. lol I had no idea (until I got here) that I don't really know how to make friends. I think it's partly because it's the holidays and not many people are getting out as much. Sorry for the novel, just being honest!
Hey, I completely understand! When I first got here, I went with a friend to a get together at Ruby Tuesday's with some girls off of a Facebook group, and it was nothing but a drama-filled night! They were mostly younger ladies as well. My friend and I still joke about that night from time to time, haha.
DeleteWe should definitely get together sometime, or at least get to know one another better a little bit =) I can shoot you my email and you can friend me on Facebook if you'd like!
Eeek, I'm so nervous about that happening! I had to deal with a very mean "girl" at our last duty station and I'm really trying to avoid that again!
DeleteThat sounds wonderful! :-)
