We thought it'd be a short trip -- we'd arrive, fill out some paperwork, and be good to go. Alas, it wasn't the case.
Here's a pro tip, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you need to ship your car: learn2math. Instead of doing some little calculations (such as gas mileage and tank capacity), Mr. L and I just assured ourselves that, since my car was practically on empty, "ten gallons should be fine" to add into the tank. Yeeeah, not so much.
It soon became apparent after we arrived at the Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) that my car gets some really great gas mileage. Instead of being under a quarter of a tank like we were told, I was barely under a half. Yep, a half a tank.
We walked inside the VPC anyways, just to see if they could offer up a solution since they most likely had seen this kind if thing happen before. Naturally, they only offered two: drive it off or pay a mechanic to siphon the rest out. We opted for the first choice.
It ended up taking a ballpark estimate of two hours to drive the rest off. I say estimate because we did at least stop for some yumtastic beignets from Cafe du Monde! =)
(Yes, that's a bite missing already. Don't judge me, I'm a weak woman.)

We also had fun driving 20+ miles over Lake Pontchartrain! Yes, I know, it's the little things in life that amuse us, haha.

After we made it back to the VPC, it was finally time to take out a handful of little things from the trip over, clean out some leftover Florida sand from the trunk, sign some forms, and drop that baby off. The actual processing only took about a half hour, so not too bad at all. We (read: I) said one final goodbye to my car and we headed back to Alabama.
